Meet our Chairman
John Grimshaw - Chairman
John Grimshaw studied music and drama in London, working as a baroque trumpet soloist and organist until his involvement with the prestigious Ballet Rambert Dance Company during his university years, which sparked his interest in the world of dance.
After a successful career in the financial industry in Hong Kong, John relocated to Jersey in 1995. While continuing to work as a financial professional, he also began to actively support dance competitions and events held on the island.
In 2004, while visiting the Dance World Cup in Munich, Germany, he had a fateful encounter with Corinna Thorne. The two built a strong partnership through repeated conversations and established the current company, DWC Limited, building the foundation for running the tournament from 2009 onwards.
The first Dance World Cup held under this new organizational structure in 2011 (held at the Newport Bay Convention Center in Disneyland Paris) was a huge success, leading to the further development of the competition today.
John initially studied Music and Drama in London, specializing as a soloist in Baroque Trumpet and Organ recitals. His interest in dance was sparked during his time at college, and particularly influenced by its association with Ballet Rambert.
In 1995, after a successful career in finance in Hong Kong, John returned to Jersey to continue his work in the finance industry and began supporting local dance competitions and events being held on the island.
In 2004, while visiting Munich, John attended the Dance World Cup competition and was introduced to Korinna Sohn. Through their ongoing discussions, they established a partnership for DWC Limited, which led to the planning of future events starting in 2009.
The Dance World Cup 2011 was the first competition held under this new company structure, successfully hosted at the Disneyland Paris Newport Bay Convention Center.
